Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to join/apply?
You must be enrolled as a full time student, have a minimum of 2.5 GPA, and must be at least a second semester Freshman. If you don't meet some or all of the requirements, don't fret! You can still keep in contact with us through the Las ROSAS program!
I'm a first semester Freshman, can I still join?
Unfortunately, as a first semester Freshman, you don't have a GPA yet, which would mean you would not meet our GPA requirement. BUT, we would still love to meet and hang out with you! You're definitely still welcome to attend our recruitment events, as well as any SLA events open to the public. If you want to get more involved, you could even join Las ROSAS program!
What's Las ROSAS Program?
Are the dues expensive?
Las ROSAS program is an interest group for SLA. If you do not meet the requirements to join SLA or you still want time to get to know us better, then this is the program for you! With Las ROSAS, you'll get access to special invitations to events that would normally only be for active SLA members. It's a way for you to get to know us (and for us to know you). That way once you meet your requirements, or decide that SLA is the place for you, you'll feel more confident about going through the process!

This being said, you do not need to go through Las ROSAS before rushing. If you meet all of the requirements and are ready to proceed into the process, then feel free! We’ll be with you 100% of the way!
What if you aren't hispanic?
No worries! You do not need to be Hispanic to be a part of or thrive within SLA. We do not in any way discriminate based on race, economic background, etc.; in fact, we celebrate and welcome diversity! SLA just happens to come from a Hispanic background, which means we showcase, value, and learn about the many different and diverse Hispanic and Latino cultures.
We do have dues that are due every semester as an active member, but they are affordable! Payment plans are available to accommodate everyone! We try to keep all dues within the price of a textbook and we have payment plans available to accommodate everyone!
What is your philanthropy?
Our main philanthropy as a national organization is the Boys & Girls Club of America, but we as an individual chapter like to take part in other service projects as well!
Do you haze?
We are a non-hazing sorority! We do not support or condone any behavior that resembles hazing in any way, shape, or form. It's an issue that we take extremely seriously. We do not believe that women who call each other sisters (or potential sisters) have the right to harass or degrade one another, no matter what.
Got some questions that we didn't answer?
No problem.
Feel free to shoot us an email at utaustin.sla@gmail.com and we'll get back to you in no time!
