OUR STORY

NATIONAL HISTORY

The sophisticated sisterhood that became Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority, Incorporated started off at none other than Texas Woman's University after Angeles Gonzalez, one of our Founding Mothers, desired to create a unique sisterhood that focused on sisterhood, community service, cultural awareness,  and academic excellence. In 1992, Our seven Founding Mothers successfully created a community of women with bonds that rival those typically reserved for families. Our Founding Mothers are:

Angeles Gonzalez

Aliza Gonzalez

Cristina Garza

Andrea Quiñones

Brenda Sotelo

Alicia Padilla

Maria Lozano

Then, in 2010, Lourdes Ibarra caught wind of Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority, Incorporated through a friend of hers. Even though she didn't know much about sororities or greek life at the time, she knew she wanted in. With all the determination and ambition that Señoritas are known for, Lourdes set out to find the five other strong women who would eventually come to establish the Elite Eta chapter at The University of Texas at Austin. Our Founding Sisters are:

Maria Guadalupe Torres

Alma Colmenero

Lourdes Ibarra

Beactriz Arreola

Karen Siles

Yvette Trujillo
